The crossbreed grinned weakly. "Considering it's what I do, I think I should be able to." His eyebrows lifted and his eyes drifted over to the queen and prince, as if to ask if they knew yet. He wondered how they'd react to a youthful bounty hunter working for the Kitsune king himself.

The Kitsune King smiled, "I will tell them, but you shouldn't keep Siren and Jacob waiting any longer. They will wonder what is keeping you. I will see you tomorrow. Sleep well." he said.

"You too." He stood and bobbed a bow to the royal family, then turned to leave the room. He smiled weakly at Jacob, then Siren. "Meeting him was very... unexpected." He chuckled quietly.

Siren smiled at Max as he exited the dining hall. He seemed quite happy to have been given the opportunity to meet the king. "Well, I'm sure you're both quite worn out now. It's been a long day for you. Shall I show you to your rooms?" Jake asked, smiling pleasantly. He seemed more confident around Max now, as if he was sure the threat was gone. Siren smiled to herself as she thought about how little Jacob really knew about Max. "That's more true than you know..." she said mysteriously, smirking at Max, "I'm sure I speak for the both of us when I say that would be wonderful of you, Jake." Jake beamed at her and then turned down the hall in the familiar direction of the room she stayed in when she visited for longer than a day.

Siren was right, it had been a long day for them both. After such a good and filling meal that he had barely resisted the urge to practically inhale, the thought of a warm, soft bed, sounded wonderful. He walked alongside Siren, tail still wagging as he stifled a large yawn that attempted to force its way through his jaws. Meeting the king had been interesting, and now he was in royal employ, certainly an eventful day no matter how one looked at it.

Jacob lead them down the hall to the room that was very familiar to Siren. She could already feel the warm comfort of the soft bed within. Siren's mouth opened in a wide yawn just thinking about it. "Looks like you really are tired, Siren." Jacob joked as they rounded the last corner. "I'm a cat, it's in my genes." Siren said, chuckling softly. She smiled at the boys as they stopped outside the room she would be sleeping in. "Good night, Max. Good night, Jake. I hope you both have a very restful sleep. I know I will." she said sleepily, entering the bed chambers and immediately going to the bed. She sat down on the edge and pulled off her boots then rolled under the covers and fell asleep.
Jake turned to Max, "Yours is just the next one. It'll be unlocked. Good night, Max." he said warmly. "I suppose I'll see you tomorrow?" he asked, turning away from the door. Then he left, walking to his own room to sleep.

The coyfox opened the door to his room, feeling decidedly odd.He sat down on the edge of his bed, resting his head in a paw, sorting the day's events in his head. A simple task that was obviously a trap leading to travelling with a mage Cat, obviously with Human blood. Now he was in the employ of the Kitsune King himself, and his dreams had been just to meet him.
"A long day..." He mused aloud quietly as he stripped down, leaving shirt and shorts folded beside the bed and climbing in. He yawned widely as he settled in to rest, eyes slowly drooping shut. He didn't want to think how odd tomorrow would be, he'd just deal with it when it came.

Siren's sleep was, thankfully, dreamless, and she awoke early the next morning feeling refreshed and ready for the day. As was her ritual, she would first go down to the garden with Jacob and begin her day with some training. Getting up, she found her boots on the floor and quickly tied them on, stretching herself a bit as she walked to the door. Jacob was already waiting for her outside her door, his tail wagging happily. She smiled at him, and looked in the direction of Max's room. "Should we invite him to come train with us?" she asked. "What if he's sleeping? I haven't heard any sounds come from that room yet this morning. It is quite early." he replied. "Well, i suppose we could let him sleep." she said, curious what time the coyfox usually got up in the morning. After one last glance at his door, she followed Jacob down the stairs and out of the building.
The Kitsune king sat upon his throne waiting patiently for Max to return, reading a small book. His ears twitched as he listened to the workers bustle about outside the room, preparing the castle, and cleaning. He'd had someone tell the cooks to make breakfast for the two of them and bring it to them when it was ready. He looked up as he heard the padding of coyote feet on the cold stone floor outside the room. "Come in Max." he said.

His claws had been carefully retracted, a very difficult habit to break, since he usually used his clawed feet for balance on rougher terrain. His fur was slightly ruffled from an eventful sleep, but he was wide awake. He entered at the invitation, meeting the king's eyes, his own displaying a wakefulness that seemed out of place with his fur. He ignored the cold floor beneath his feet as he walked up to the throne, looking a little nervous and evidently feeling out-of-place.

"Good morning, Max" the Kitsune King said, smiling at the dishevled looking coyfox in front of him. "Are you hungry? I've asked for some food for us." he continued, lifting his hand to signal Max to sit in the chair next to him. A temporary table was set in front of the throne and the chair. As he spoke a server walked up to the door carrying a large covered tray. "Ah, good. Just in time. Set it here, please." he said to the server, who immediately followed his orders and then left. The Kitsune king lifted the lid off the tray to reveal fruit and bread and cheese.

"Good morning, ah, your majesty." He obeyed the gesture and blushed as his middle growled. "I'm ah... a little hungry."
The meal was not necessarily what he was used to, but it certainly looked delicious all the same. He had never tasted such well-prepared food as he did last night, and as he suspect he would this morning. Had he been by himself, he would have tucked in, but he knew he was in company, royal company at that. He observed the king. His curiosity was piqued, he did want to know if the King already needed him for something specific.

The Kitsune king smiled at his new 'Shadow' as he sat down next to him and looked at him curiously. He was probably waiting for the king to begin, so he began by taking a bite of bread. When he had swallowed his first bite he looked at Max. "Siren never told me the conditions of your meeting. Were you tracking her?" the Kitsune king asked, picking up some fruit next. "You need not worry. You are past the stage where I would consider you a threat to her. Please tell me." he encouraged.

He nibbled on a piece of fruit thoughtfully, considering the king's question. "Well... A bounty had actually been placed on a 'cat'. Quite a sizeable bounty as well." He flicked his tail, remembering his glee at finding the job. "I hadn't gotten a bounty in a while. If I had, I might have been more suspicious."
He continued nibbling gingerly. "So I set up a net trap to capture this cat. Upon me coming down to the net, my captive proceeded to burn it to ashes." He laughed. "I guessed at that point I wasn't actually meant to be successful on this bounty. So I didn't try to bring Siren in,a nd she in turn didn't burn me to ash. My old employers probably think she did though."

The Kitsune king chuckled along with Max as he recalled that Siren had burned his net to ashes. "That sounds like our Siren. I don't think many have actually succeeded in restraining her. It would take much manipulation on the part of the captor to accomplish such a feat, I am certain." he said, taking another piece of fruit. "She will be leaving soon, and I would like you to accompany her to the border. I know she can take care of herself, but at least this way we can make it look like you're parting the castle with her. When you have reached the border and said goodbye, there is another assignment I have for you. A little surveillance and tracking, and possibly some trapping, if certain conditions are met..." He looked off, thinking deeply about this assignment as he chewed.

An escort. Well he had already been one before, this time it was official though. At the mention of another assignment, he leaned forward slightly, ears perked forward. "Another assignment?" He was curious. The second assignment felt like it would be the first 'proper' assignment he would have as how he would work under the king. "Do tell, majesty."
