Ryoki stared in shock. It was a dreary day in spring, where the Sacred Temple was located. This was a place that humans built for some reason, but for some reason, they left many moons ago. Now the wolves, treat it like a temple, a sacred holy place. However, that was not what brought Ryoki in shock.
In the middle of the stone road, was a scent that she knew off by heart. She gave a desprite whine and ran over. The looks of the being were horrible. His fur was matted, his blue eyes were hidden from his almost closed eyes. His grey fur was covered in blood. He whine and he slowly brought his head up.
"Ry....o....ki...." He said slowly and with much pain. More blood spattered on the ground as he moved.
"Shhh, don't talk Dusk. Just try to get better, I'm here now. Every thing is going to be Okay." She whispered,. However, one look at him would prove that it is not true. Just who could do such a thing?
Dusk gave a slight shake of his head. "No...... Too ...late... Death is coming..... for ...me. I feel... him prodding ....me....with his....ice cold...claws. I scent....the afterlife. Pain...overwhelming....torture to stay.... torture to leave...." He coughed, sending a painful spasm though his body. He howled in pain. He opened his eyes. Even though they were clouded with pain, they shone like starlight. His vioce sounded clearer, though just as weak. "Ryoki, we shall meet again. I promise ....I swear. There will be a day when we.... shall run across the stars...." The light from his eyes faded, and he gave a soft sigh. His head fell down for the last time and his spririt left him.
Ryoki eyes widened. She could feel nothing except the pain in the heart, as if it was shredded to a million pieces.. She game a scream of agony, that echo's across the forest and she nuzzled her noce into his fur, barely noticing the blood that now soaked into her which at grey coat. She sat alone with his body; remember painfully the memories and the promises of the future she was given, all ripped apart from her.
She was the runt of the litter, and her brothers and sisters hated her, and she knew that they all wanted her to die. Her mother tried to prevent them to stop picking on their little sister, but she couldn't prevent it all the time. However, when she was about five months old, the pack found a litter of cubs beneath an old tree. One of them was Dusk. He was shy, but he was kind. He befriended Ryoki, encouraged her, and stayed by her side. He showed her that not everyone hated her, and thing will look better as long as keep smiling.
However Ryoki was not sure how she was suppose to smile at a time like this. Instead she got up slowly, and with one last look at Dusk she started to howl her slow, mournful hymn.
"Your absence fills me with sorrow,
The dreary doomsday metaphors my grief,
Red lilies spill out on this sacred place,
Only your blood is worthy, but not at a time like this,
Unspoken , untimely death your is,
It should have been me, so my futureof life is yours,
I would die for you, if it brought you back,
Slowly, painfully , without mercy,
But you are gone from this world forever,
Not even the cruelest, gruesomest death will bring you back,
from you are now spirit, and I am still wolf,
You are the sky, and I am the Earth,
You run with the stars, while I run with blood,
You are my God, and I shall be your servant,
My loyalty to you shall be unfaltering,
Until the day we both run with the stars."
She finished and as if in response, the rain started to fall.
